Josep Bau holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Barcelona (2000) and completed his postdoctoral training with a two-and-a-half year stay at the Department of Entomology of the University of California, Riverside. After a period in the private sector, in 2006 he joined the UVic, where he has managed academic aspects of the bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Biotechnology and taught, mainly in the fields of Zoology and Molecular Biology. He is also part of the Bioinformatics and Bioimaging (BI-SQUARED) research group at the UVic. Although his original specialty is applied entomology, specifically the biological control of insect pests, he has been incorporating elements of computing and bioinformatics (and more recently molecular biology) into his research. Since September 2018, he has been the Vice-Rector of International Relations at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC).

  • The UVic-UCC has restored the church of the Hospital de la Santa Creu de Vic to host the University’s main events, and the adjoining Gothic Hall for small events. Both facilities are available to the public, which reinforces the idea of the City Campus.
  • The restoration works, promoted by the UVic-UCC, Vic City Council and the Hospital de la Santa Creu Foundation—owner of the property, which has ceded it for 25 years—have received funding from Barcelona Provincial Council, the Department of Culture and the La Caixa Foundation.
  • Continuing education is the door that leads to the specialisation that is increasingly necessary to adapt to the new social and business realities
  • To strengthen and better focus on continuing education, the UVic has created the Postgraduate School, which takes over from the International Centre for Continuing Education.
  • The new offer will include more flexible methodology that will boost multimodality and the presence of online training, and will have the support of the Validation and Accreditation Unit, which will ensure the quality of the training programmes.
  • It is vital to strengthen the Postgraduate School at this time for two reasons: the coming demographic decline and the need for 80% of current professionals to retrain in the next five years. Therefore, “the possibilities for growth in this area will be enormous,” said the director of the School, Eduard Prats.
  • The new methodology of UEmpresa studies applies to the degree in Business Administration and Management and to the two Professional Campus’s training cycles in the field of business.
  • The new UEmpresa building has been completely remodelled and has an agora for holding discussions with students and rooms for carrying out simulation activities.
  • The Faculty of Medicine of the UVic-UCC is ready to offer the new degree in General Audiology from academic year 2023-2024. It will be the first university in Catalonia and Spain to offer this qualification.
  • The degree will train professionals specialised in auditory function. It will be based on a syllabus taught in blended mode, which will consist of 240 credits spread over four academic years.
  • The recent recognition of several projects by Elisava Industrial Design Engineering bachelor’s degree students confirms the excellence of the students and the strong position of this discipline in our university.
  • According to the Spanish Engineering Observatory, “the employment rate in the engineering sector is over 98%” and “in ten years, more than 200,000 engineers will be needed to cover business needs”

"Simulation can be used to put the student in real situations and to train in specific skills for the teaching profession"

Laura Torreguitart Llauradó (Barcelona, 1979) is a teacher in Early Childhood Education (UAB). Raised in Sabadell, settled in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada and with a strong bond with Castellfollit de Riubregós, her vocation as a teacher was clear because she has always been curious about learning and because the teachers she had during her school days made a very positive impression on her. Currently, she coordinates the advanced vocational training cycle in Early Childhood Education at the UManresa Professional Campus. It was through a colleague from the Campus that she discovered the potential of simulation for teaching work. That is why she decided to train as a simulation instructor through a course at the Centre for Innovation in Simulation (CISARC). She wanted to continue studying in this field so enrolled on the university master’s degree in Simulation Methodology, taught by UManresa. She now applies the methodology in classrooms and is so convinced of its usefulness that she is preparing a doctoral thesis to apply it to the work of teaching teams in education centres.

  • This is the highest representative body of UVic-UCC students and is made up of the Plenary and the Permanent Committee
  • In addition to representing students in university bodies, it attends to student inquiries, safeguards their rights and duties, and organizes various activities, such as the Annual Festival.
  • The UVic-UCC Student Representatives Council (COES) includes representatives of the faculties of the UVic, UManresa, the Faculty of Medicine, Elisava and affiliated centres
